Accordion backstory —
- Except for the Hohner accordion, which was purchased new, all the other accordions were purchased as used following the COVID-19 pandemic. Once Dan got his first vaccine against COVID, he was determined to purchase an accordion and begin taking on-line lessons through YouTube to learn technique and the purpose of the 120-base buttons. Even though Dan played an accordion as a child, he didn’t learn the full extent of the base buttons nor accordion technique.
- Over time, each of the used accordions had to be repaired, possibly due to the heat disrupting the wax that holds the reeds for all the base and treble keys. Hence, the need to have backup instruments. Dan still stores at least one of the accordions at church so that if the travel accordion is not working that day, he has a back-up ready to play.
- The factory new Hohner Bravo accordion was purchased in 2023.
- Dan plays weekly in his church band. Steven provides the relevant cords for the music because Dan never learned music theory in order that he could readily discern which cords to play.
This is Steven’s father (Everard or “Ev”) seated next to a Hohner Morino VI M professional model accordion. The accordion was owned and played by Ev’s best friend and neighbor Walter Wintergerst. Dan and Steven purchased the accordion as a gift for Ev. The accordion is signed with Walter’s name.
