Dan’s Childhood Remembrances

  • Dunbar farm — Where Grandma Marlee (Dunbar) Engeljohn grew up and Uncle Marvin/Aunt Hilda/Judith lived.
  • Engeljohn farm — Where my grandfather (Otto) and my dad (Carroll) grew up, next to the home where I grew up.
    • You can see from the picture that it was taken from a plane and it contains a watermark. I assume that if the Engeljohn family had purchased the picture, the watermark would have been removed. Still, the picture fully represents my memory of the Engeljohn “Sunny Side Farm.” The picture was taken after the dairy operation ended and the confined hog operation was in place. The hogs were raised in the barn at the upper right; the cylindrical container for spreading liquid hop manure is evident towards the top and middle of the photo.
  • Grandfather Otto’s papers —
    • Birth (delayed) certificate — Otto Henry Engeljohn.
    • Christening (in German) — Otto Heinrich Johann Engelkenjohann, in 1904.
    • Confirmation (in German) — Otto Engelkenjohann.
    • Death certificate.
    • Marriage certificate — Otto Engeljohn and Marlee Dunbar.
  • Toy barn of my dad and Uncle Donnie. The brothers wrote the name “Sunny Side Farm” on one side of the top. The other side says registered Brown Swiss and Corriedale sheep.
